Motivation...

I'm the first to admit that I've never exactly been the best housekeeper. But you know the BEST motivation to clean your house (and keep it that way 24/7)? Put it on the market.

It's been a whirlwind month! We had a "kinda plan" that we would like to move to a bigger house in the next year. In fact, when we bought this house, we imagined it being our "5 year home". We'd been married a few years and didn't have the girls yet. In fact, it would be another 6 years until we even had Caroline. That was 11 years ago...and we are still here. Our house isn't that tiny, but 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog are not fitting here as comfortably as we'd like.

We started "just looking" at houses about 6 weeks ago. Then, exactly one month ago, our agent showed us a newly constructed home. We (okay, it was really just ME) fell in love with it immediately! Only problem? We weren't even thinking about putting ours on the market yet. We made a contingency offer on 7/6, they countered and we accepted on 7/8 and we were officially on the market by 7/15. We have basically moved about 50% of our personal belongings to a 10'x10' storage unit. It's already almost 3/4 full! BUT...that makes for a house that is fairly easy to keep neat and ready to show.

We've had about 4 or 5 showings so far. A couple of those have produced some feedback on things we just can't fix...like the shape of our backyard and the shape of the kitchen. We've also been told that one couple has us in their "top 3" and another lady really liked it but hasn't made a decision yet. I'm sure many people would agree, this process is absolutely gut wrenching! I hate the uncertainty of not knowing WHEN we get to move forward with buying the new house. We are seriously praying that we will sell soon and won't be forced into 2 house payments. We even bought a St. Joseph statue and buried it upside down in the front flower bed. (It's a Catholic thing...look it up!) I've been praying the novena that goes with it.

Here's how "clean" we've been motivated to keep the house on a daily basis.

I think I've watch a few too many HGTV real estate shows that talk about staging and clearing out personal belongings. ;)
