Ooooohhh…Aaaaahhhhh!

So. In general, I’m a fan of the 4th of July. I mean, it IS Independence Day! I love all things patriotic and am so proud to celebrate our country’s history and freedom.

BUT…I really don’t love all the firecrackers that come along with it. Especially since I now have a toddler, an infant and a nervous dog. Not a recipe for a good night. Fortunately, Caroline didn’t take long to fall asleep, even if it WAS with her little hands clamped over her ears. She told me before falling asleep, “I don’t WIKE dem! I want dem to STOP!”. :( Poor girl.

Little sister is totally oblivious!

I figured I might as well make the best of the all the illegal fireworks (NOT firecrackers) around our house, so I grabbed my camera and tripod to try to get some shots. It was not easy. These are the best that I got. Not many chances to practice something like this, though.

As for the REAL celebration on the 4th of July…our nation stating it’s independence from England…I can’t believe that Thomas Jefferson was only 33 when he wrote the Declaration. I mean, I’M 33. I could never come up with something so profound. I have such respect and admiration for so many of our Founding Fathers. Good thing I’m a civics teacher! ;)

I love this video, too…

Oh…and this one, too!

***Added this one as an afterthought…can’t believe I forgot this one today!!***

  3. Your photos are much better than mine!  #1, we didn't have a good spot at all.  #2, there was a street light right in my way, producing too much light.  #3, kids. That speaks for itslef.  #4, no tripod.  I would love to try it again next year with a better setup.

  4. Poor Caroline! Our fireworks were cancelled due to a county bun ban. Lame, I know. Now that I think about it, I went to bed before 9:00. Maybe it wasn't so lame after all!

You mean, you're 33 and haven't written anything to be celebrated for at least the next 235 years? Lame! ;)

  5. There were so many fireworks going off around our house all weekend long.  My 8 year old does NOT like loud noises and neither do the cats, so the nights were pretty tough around here.  Love your fireworks pictures!

  6. Food porn!  Ha ha...you crack me up!!!  Although I do know that marshmallows are low fat.  So I bet you could make a halfway descent S'More that wouldn't take up all your points.  Just to make you feel better, I was lying.  They weren't good at all, they tasted like dirt.  See, feel better now???
