That’s what it is to have a birthday on 9/11. Before 2001, I never really referred to the date as that, but just as September 11th. However, I always liked the fact that my birthdate rhymed when said as a number…”nine eleven seventy-seven”. I still think that’s kind of cool, but I also feel a little strange when people ask for my DOB and they say “Oh, how sad.” Well, of course, it’s sad. But it was just my birthday for 23 years before that tragic day.
I can’t imagine how the mothers of babies born on 9/11/01 feel about that day. Aside from the fear that all of us felt that day (and in the following weeks and months), I’m sure they have felt like their child’s most special day has always had to be “toned down” because of the other events that happened that day. Again, such a bittersweet feeling. I read several articles about 9/11 babies and their birthday experiences over that past 9 years. Just thought you might like to read some of them, too.
I think Maggie’s birthday will receive a similar reaction from many…being that she was born on April 1st…she’ll forever be an “April Fool”. But at least that’s something funny, not sad. :)

On a different note, here are a few pictures we took before heading to our favorite high school’s home opener. Both girls are destined to be Grizzlies when they grow up!

Hope you enjoyed your birthday despite the fact it's date is now infamous. The girls look so cute in their little outfits. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday anyhow! I'm sure this year was worse than the past 8 or so, being a milestone. I think you should just get to pick the 10th as your new birth date.
ReplyDeletePrecious pictures of the girls...hope you had a Happy Birthday!
