I don't deal with change very well. I like routine. Routine is comfortable and it works for me.
Today, a couple of things changed.
The first change involves this picture...
At Caroline's 9-month checkup today, the pediatrician basically told us to toss the bottle and start feeding her formula in her sippy cup. It just makes me a little sad. I mean, I'm the same one who was sad when we moved up to 9-oz bottles from the little 4-oz ones. Now we are just supposed to put them away altogether??? We tried her first formula sippy cup tonight at bedtime, and it didn't go very well. We quickly poured it into a bottle, in an attempt to salvage our peaceful bedtime routine. It threw her for a loop, but she managed to go to sleep pretty quickly afterward.
On a more exciting note, we have Caddy's latest stats at 9 months old:
- Weight: 21 lbs, 12 oz (75th-90th%)
- Length: 30 1/4 inches (>95th%!!!!!!!)
- Head circumference: 44 1/2 cm (50th%)
It's official...we are growing a
GIANT at our house! The doc says she's the size of some 18-month-olds! Wow!
Another change in our house today...
Darren's age...

**Do you know how much I ♥ cookie cake????
Change is good...just keep telling yourself that! :0) I remember those days, and I, too, felt the nostalgia rising up in me to have to leave the bottles behind. BUT, it's really exciting when they can feed themselves, dress themselves (Garrett still will not, BTW), and drink from "big kid" cups!
ReplyDeleteOhmigosh... your kid is not giant!! She's beautiful!! My 8 month old son is almost 27 pounds if it makes you feel any better!! We tried with the sippy too and its just not working out so well. You do what you feel is right!!
ReplyDeleteAnd what I wouldn't give for a bite of that cookie cake!!
My Caroline was always ginormous too! She was my first, and I rushed her out of each stage (bottle, paci, etc.)....Oh, how I wished I could have kept her a baby forever. With the boys, I was not so eager to have them grow up. Their three and a half now....and I would probably still give them a bottle if they wanted it. I'm totally kidding....but....enjoy every moment. Before you know it, she'll be starting kindergarten--and chances are that you won't be packing a bottle in her lunch box. ;)
ReplyDeleteHee hee...at least you have a BEAUTIFUL giant!! Kate's big too....her head circ. is always off the charts but her weight and height are getting more into the 75% range.
ReplyDeleteAbout the sippy cup. Our ped said the same thing but I thought that was a little harsh. I started by eliminating the mid-day bottle around 10 months and then she was down to a b in the am and one before bed. Just this week (she's 11 mo. old today), we have eliminated the am bottle, so the only b she has is before bed. She has sippy w/ brkfst (which she drinks on all morning-I refrig when she's not interested), sippy with lunch, sippy with afternoon snack, sippy with dinner, and then bottle at bedtime. I'm scared of taking that one away...so we'll see. Poor babies..those doctors just want to take away all of their favorite things!!!
Good luck...it does really seem to fall into place though so don't let it stress you out. Save the weaning for when you're off work. It will be much easier on all of you. I'm soooo jealous that you and Darren will have some time off together!!!
I am so not ready to take the bottle away from Kili either. Oh so sad.
ReplyDeleteThe cookie cake looks soooooooo good!!
girrrrrl. you're talking to the bottle drill sargeant. the day after christmas, i packed up the bottles and gave them away. she wasn't my friend for a couple of days, but she got over it. good luck at your house!
ReplyDeleteI love cookie cakes too!
ReplyDeleteI love cookie cakes also, that one looks extremly yummy! If I had a dollar for everytime someone called my son a big boy I would be rich. I love chunky babys, evertime I see a skinny baby I just want to feed them lol!
ReplyDeleteMy boy took a bottle till he was 18 months despite the doctors orders :)
