Perjury...

Just a quick funny story...

As I mentioned in a previous post, we are studying the criminal justice system in my class.

On Friday, while in the middle of a discussion about the procedures involved in a criminal case, this exchange occurred:

Me: "Does anyone know what it's called when you lie under oath in court?"

Them: {silence...shrugs}

Me: "It's called perjury. What do you think happens if you lie while you're under oath?"

One of them: "You go to hell!"

Me (holding back fits of laughter): "Well, I meant what happens to you in this life, not the afterlife."


*No children were scolded during the course of this discussion.

**In fact, I told the boy in question that I'd be writing that one down for future reference!
